George Pistereanu, the lead character in feature film "If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle," received the best actor award at the Stockholm Film Festival, which ran on November 17-28, according to Mediafax. Pistereanu went up against Ewan McGregor, nominated for his role in "Ghost Writer." "If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle" will be released in Swedish cinemas on December 3, being acquired by distributor Folkets Bio.

"He convinced us that his dilemma is real, forcing us to understand his desperate actions. His interpretation left us speechless," the jury's motivation reads. Pistereanu picked up the trophy during the award gala on Saturday evening.

"If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle," Florin Serban's debut as feature film director, is the first Romanian film in the last 17 years to enter the Berlin Festival official competition and win two important prizes: the grand prize of the jury - Silver Bear and the Alfred Bauer distinction. The film is also Romania's proposition for the 2011 Academy Awards. It is also nominated for the European Film Academy's debut prize - EFA Discovery Award, which will be handed out on December 4 in Tallinn.
